The Path Forward

The girl walks into the sunlight, shielding her eyes from the brightness. She sees the path that leads forward into another forest across clearing and is covered by fog. She looks back and sees the path she came from that is slowly being overgrown with plants and small trees. Knowing she can't go back that way, she turns herself to go forward. She doesn't see the vine that creeps up to attach itself to her ankle until she feels the tug that brings her to her knees.

"NO!" she yells, ripping herself from the vine's grasp. "I cannot go back there and you won't make me. There is no love for me there nor anyone who cares for me. There is only hurt that way."

Grasping slave's hand, she pulls herself back up onto her feet and picks the little girl up, holding her tight. "Friends wait for us, you only have to reach out to them," slave says to her. "Let us go forward and glance back only to realize that what we have at the times we do so are better than what we had." She lets go of the girl's hand now that she's standing and takes hold of beasties cage to continue rolling it forward.

The little girl holds tight to her as she walks forward, helping to give her the resolve she needs to make it through each step away from the pain. Glancing over, she reaches through the bars and holds beasties hand as they walk forward into the great unknown.
